When the locals finish day to day business, you’ll regularly find them on the streets of Brussels to enjoy the late spring afternoons. Brussels offers numerous great spots to have a drink on weekdays, some of them within walking distance from our Boutique hotel in Brussels.

1) Place du Chatelain

The Place du Châtelain is surrounded by bistros, cafés and shops. Ideal when you need a short break. During your day or if you would like to enjoy a local but not too informal atmosphere.

The place du Châtelain is located in Ixelles. It’s particularly worth a visit on every Wednesday when the food market settles there from 14h to 19h. You will undoubtedly enjoy the traditional food and wine stands the market has to offer. Once the market closes down, the bars in the surrounding area stay open, and especially on sunny evenings, big crowds gather on the square.

Place du Chatelain is about 15mins by foot from our hotel and is the hottest place in town on Wednesdays!

2) Boeremet

The Boeremet, which means farmer’s market in Flemish, takes place in the Abattoirs d’Anderlecht on every Thursday from 15h to up to 22h. This great market hosts a high variety of stands from flowers and vegetables, to small restaurant stands offering fresh food, wines and beers. If you are looking for an authentic place to enjoy in Brussels on your Thursday, the Boeremet is a must for you. Located next to the metro station Delacroix, here you will find an authentic market, that provides quality and fun for a reasonable price in this iconic and beautiful place on Thursdays.

3) Place Van Meenen

Place van Meenen located in Saint-Gilles hosts a local market on Monday from 12h to 19h. Here you’ll have the chance to buy food, clothes, and flowers as well as enjoying a great glass of wine and a nice accompanying snack at one of the stands. It is even possible to enjoy a cup of coffee at some of the stands of the market! Take note that the wine stands will be very busy after working hours as many locals like to enjoy a glass at the market after their day of work! On any other day you will enjoy great drinks and meals in the surrounding cafés and restaurants while enjoying the sight of the beautiful city hall of Saint-Gilles. It is about 15mins by foot from our Hotel and is a great way to take a break during your visit of Saint-Gilles on Mondays.

Are you craving a quality burger? Try out the Cool Bun restaurant! Offering tasty and quality burgers, the meal here will bring you a moment of joy. To go there, when leaving the hotel go left onto Berckmans street. Turn towards your right, walk for a few meters and cross the road when you see the restaurant. The homemade Burger is, of course, flame grilled organic burger!

Our tip: Apple jack burger. Onglet, lettuce, oven dried tomatoes, Cheddar, onion rings, BBQ sauce. Not the typical burger you’ll find in any burger place.

Spot 3: Go Oriental without moving from Saint Gilles!

Is exotic food your thing? Or simply curious of what Moroccan food has to offer? Try out the Bab Dar restaurant in Saint-Gilles! While walking out of the hotel, go right to the Bronstraat on which you’ll walk until Chaussée de Charleroi. You are looking for more traditional Belgian food? Follow us to a part of Berckmans street where you will find a local treasure.
While leaving the hotel walk to the Berckmans street, go right then straight to the large crossroad with Chaussée Charleroi. Cross the road to stay on the Berckmans Street and after a few meters you will find the restaurant Le Malte. This Belgian restaurant offers a wide selection of European/Belgian meals built to please anyone. This restaurant has accessible prices and offers great quality; it also has lunch specials. A great spot to take a break during your day.

Spot 5: Could “The Cuisine” be missing?

Looking for French cuisine? Try out Flâneries Gourmandes then. It is a little further down the street then Le Malte, and its French modern cuisine is delightful. Even though the menu is slightly higher priced, the dishes are truly delicious and tasteful! Its short menu changes regularly, so whenever you are in Brussels you can re-visit this restaurant over and over again, and still be pleasantly surprised by their meals!

Spot 6: You can’t pick just 1 nationality…We give you 2 at once!

You enjoy eating outside but are slightly tired of the usual, traditional European cuisine? Inada is the perfect place for you! This restaurant managed very successfully to create a fusion of Japanese cuisine and French gastronomy! Any gourmet or food lover has to try this; it would even be worth the trip to Brussels alone. Prices may again be slightly higher, the quality of the cuisine and products there is off the hook. To get there go to your right while leaving the Hotel and walk straight to the crossroads. Immediately on your right, on this crossroad, you will find Inada. You’re in for a treat, guaranteed!

The Most Colorful Markets In Brussels

Sunday’s are perfect for a refreshing walk in the morning… With spring knocking at the door (or almost) I would like to share with you some of Brussels colorful markets. I hope you will enjoy visiting these unique places while staying at our hotel near Avenue Louise.

Grand-Place Market of flowers

Early on summer mornings, every day from 8 am till 6 pm, Brussels’ Grand-Place is turned into a giant flower market. All sorts of plants and exotic flowers create a unique picture that will allow for a great photo to share with your smart-phone on your FaceBook or Twitter page (don’t forget to tag @PantoneHotel). The Grote Markt, as the Grand Place is called in Flemish, with so many beautiful colors will certainly surprise you, and make your day!

Boulevard du Midi

The market at Brussels-Midi station is one of Brussels’ mainmulticultural markets. Every Sunday, between 8 am and 1 pm, you’ll have the chance to find food, clothes and plants from all over the world. At only a few minutes away from our hotel you can buy Greek, Turkish and Italian products, and lot more of course.

All nationalities are represented at the Midi Market. Baskets full of fresh olives, dried fish, Greek pastries and all kinds of herbs and spices make this large and lively market one of the most colorful places for food-shopping in Brussels.

You should definitely take the time and spend some hours there!

Brussels Vintage Market

Retro is in style again! This very special market was launched in October 2010, and takes place in Halles ST Géry from 7 to 7 pm every first Sunday of the month.

What will you find there? All the typical Vintage objects brought here from some of the best sellers in town. Just imagine vintage paradise with second hand shoes, clothes and bags but also jewelry, coats, accessories, belts, hats, knitwear, boots, uniforms, necklaces, berets, wigs, ties and buttons…

They even sell old music records and some delicious (fresh) cupcakes in case you get hungry for a snack.

The BVM is also a nice and original place to get drinks or brunch with your friends after a fantastic and crazy morning of Vintage shopping. If you are a vintage lover you don’t want to miss this incredible market!

Brussels is considered to be the European capital of comics. Every first Sunday of the month, on the Place Saint-Géry in the summer and in the Halles Saint-Géry in the winter comic fans flood out to get their hands on missing items in their collection. You will be able to find good deals on new and second-hand comic strips, and some people even simply exchange comic-books without. And then there is always the opportunity to meet artists and participate in contests …

Sales! Cheap Shopping In Brussels

From 3rd to 31st January, the shopping streets in Brussels are bustling with winter sales activity, if you are a shopping lover don’t miss a visit! Sales in Brussels are,by law, actual sales: this means that traders, including those really cool Belgian boutiques, can only sell products in a “sale”, “solden” in Dutch, or “soldes” in French. Our hotel close to avenue Louise is the perfect starting point for a couple of days of shopping.

Shopping in Brussels in the month of January is, more than ever, all about fashion and design. Don’t expect huge savings though, the discounts usually go up as the sale period goes on. So the first week, you may find many things marked down only 15% or so; by the end of the sale period, the stuff that hasn’t moved may be marked down 30% to 40%. Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert

The oldest and most prestigious shopping arcades in Europe offer a selection of specialist shops. This is a really well-known glazed shopping arcade and so you’ll likely find other tourists here. This Italian Neo-Renaissance arcade is considered one of Europe’s oldest “malls”. Charged by King Leopold I with its construction in 1837, young architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaars converted the entire Rue Saint-Hubert into the airy arcade that you see today. As your hosts at thePANTONE HOTEL^TM Brussels, we’d like to provide you with a short list of museums visiting. All museums can be reached easily from our hotel close to Avenue Louise.

Visiting museums in Brussels does require a bit of prepping up. The reason behind this is that it’s not always easy to find your way around in the web of Brussels museums. Brussels has different groups of museums that you’ll be able to find under multiple names or individual descriptions.

Some of the museum groups, on top, are divided over multiple locations which make it tricky to comprehend where you’re supposed to be heading. Especially when searching online, you might run into some confusing information.

We made you a tiny selection of museums that we think are definitely worth exploring. For our selection we also attempt to find you a path through the labyrinth.

1. Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium

The Royal Museums of Fine Arts were founded more than 2 centuries ago, and consist of a group of museums on different locations. The collection combined contains a stunning twenty thousand paintings, sculptures and drawings. The treasures of the museums include works by Bosch, Bruegel, Cranach, Memling, Jordaens, Rubens, Delveaux and Magritte.

1.1 The Museum of Ancient Art

Here you’ll find a large collection of sculptures and paintings from the 15th through the 18th century. Our personal favorite: the wing dedicated to Felmish old masters.

1.2 The Museum of Modern Art

This museum is dedicated to artists of the 19th and 20th century. The museum is currently closed and will reopen in November 2012.

1.3 The Antoine Wiertz Museum

Antoine Wiertz was a highly spectcular artist and often painted on huge canvasses where drama, terror and size played an important role.

1.4 The Constantin Meunier Museum

Meunier had a love for paintings and sculptures. This museum is the place where the artist spent the last years of his life and contains more than 700 works of art.

2. Magritte museums

Again here there is a bit of space for confusion. There are 2 Magritte museums in Brussels dedicated to this famous artist.

The first Magritte museum (website: click here) is located at Place Royale 1. Indeed, at the exact same address as the museum of modern art. Online you won’t be abe to find out easily that these museums are located at the same spot. Tickets also need to be purchased separately. Hint: combined tickets are cheaper.

The collection is a beautiful sample of René Magritte’s oeuvre and covers all periods from his life. Here you’ll find his most important masterpieces.

Then there’s the second Magritte museum (website: click here). Renee Magritte lived here for 24 years of his life. This museum offers a biographical description of his life. TA visit of this will give you a very intimate impression of the life of Magritte.

These 2 museums truly compliment each other, so if you’re a fan of Magritte’s modern surrealist art, you should go and see both.

3. Musee du Cinquantenaire

Once more, this museum is part of a group, being the Royal Museums of Art and History

Musee du Cinquantenaire offers an overview of the history of mankind in the five continents from prehistoric times until today. This large museum includes high quality exhibitions and archaeological pieces from prehistory to the Middle Ages. The South American exposition holds our preference, which you shouldn’t miss.

Brussels Restaurant Tips Close To The Pantone Hotel

Hence here’s a list of three affordable restaurants in Saint Gilles and Ixelles. All three of them are located at less than 15 minutes walking distance from our design hotel in Brussels.

Brussels is a true cosmopolitan city and the unexpected awaits you at every turn. Food is no exception. Just few step away from the Pantone Hotel you’ll find a wide choice of restaurants and cuisines. Traditional Belgian food, Italian, contemporary cuisine, seafood are just examples of the wealth of dinner choices close to Pantone Hotel. The following three restaurants are close to the hotel and undoubtedly all worth a visit.

La Vigne

Restaurant “La Vigne” is located in the lively Rue Jourdan, where plenty of restaurants open their doors every night. Head to La Vigne for seafood specialties and seasonal food. For a 2 course dinner including wine, you’ll spend about €40 to €50. Now let us not try to sell you our opinions on this restaurant. “We noticed this restaurant in our exploration of the area near Hotel Pantone and, based on the variety of mussels offered, decided to dine there. No regrets whatsoever! I ordered escargots and mussels in garlic and cream sauce and my husband chose mussels in a curry cream sauce. There were at least 3 dozen in each serving and they were plump and delicious…”.

Chez Oki

At Chez Oki you’ll be immersed in a casually elegant atmosphere and contemporary Japanese fusion cuisine. Even though you can eat a la carte, we recommend you take a 3, 4 or 5 course menu. Don’t miss out on the signature dish here, sushi foie gras.

Les Salades de Gaspard

First and foremost this bistro-style restaurant is known for great service and a warm atmosphere. This is a great charming and cosy spot for a nice chat with friends or for couples. Between great salads, and a choice of grilled meat there are plenty of exciting plates on the menu.

When asking for recommendations to the restaurant staff, the following plates will probably be mentioned: the Salade César, the Salade de la mer and the
Salade Riche with smoked salmon and prawns. Amongst the grilled meats, Gaspard recommends the Siemmenthal entrecote.
